Fire ants can turn a good lawn into a headache fast. If you’ve ever stepped near one of their mounds, you know how quickly they react. One moment the yard looks normal, and the next you’ve got a pile of soil that wasn’t there yesterday.

A fire ant mound on the surface doesn’t tell the whole story. What you see above ground is only a small part of the colony. Most of the ants and usually several queens stay deeper in the soil.
